Commiphora Myrrha

properties

This fragrant plant is soothing to the skin while improving skin elasticity. It is a natural anti-septic which is great for acne or blackheads, as well as having antiallergenic and anti-inflammatory effects. It can help prevent premature aging and strengthens the protective barrier of the skin while providing some natural SPF skin protection. It is also used in oral hygiene products to kill bacteria and freshen breath.

history

Myrrh was used for burning as incense during ancient mayan ceremonies and rituals and is still used today by the modern Maya. Chichicastenango market is one of the largest markets in Guatemala and the locals are famous for their adherence to pre-Christian beliefs and ceremonies which are often being performed on the Catholic church steps in front of the market. You can smell the incense through the market as you wander in and out of alluring stalls.

Local sourcing

We buy this from the local markets in Guatemala where the shamans and locals buy all their ingredients for ceremonial rituales and incense.
