Coffea Arabica

Properties

The caffeine in coffee naturally stimulates hair follicle growth and clarifies your hair, creating shine and clarifying texture. It is also helpful for varicose veins and cellulite as it stimulates the circulatory system, so it works well as a body or foot scrub.

history

Coffee is so ubiquitous with our culture now that it is hard to imagine a world without it. The origin story is that coffee as a beverage was first discovered by the goat herder Kaldi when he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night. Kaldi reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and found that it kept him alert through the long hours of evening prayer. The abbot shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energizing berries began to spread.

As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would bring these beans across the globe. These days, coffee is one of the most well-known Guatemalan exports.

Local sourcing

We source our coffee from our Dona Betty and her family in our local cooperative in San Cristobal el Alto. It is grown using organic processes and dried, fermented and roasted in the traditional Mayan way.
