Cera Alba and Honey

Properties

Beeswax is rich in vitamin A, creating a moisture seal that promotes cell regeneration. Guatemalan honey is naturally rich in Antioxidants. Honey’s healing powers are antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and a natural humectant for both your skin and hair and it can nourish surrounding skin tissue.

History

Honey has been used in mesoamerica for centuries. The bees cultivated by the maya are collectively known as Melipona which are sting-less but there are many varieties within them each with their own scientifically proven medicinal and skincare benefits. Afrikanised bees were introduced in the more recent past because the honey is not perishable and the beeswax is easier to collect.

Local Sourcing

We use the Talnete and Doncelita varieties of the mayan melipona honey which we source from a local cooperative with members from 14 communities in the Highlands. Our beeswax comes from responsible beekeepers up a mountain above Antigua Guatemala.
