Volcanic Sulfur

PROPERTIES

Volcanic ash is a powerful disinfectant with anti-bacteria anti-viral qualities. The ash is high in sulphur, which not only helps the body to resist bacteria but actually destroys it. Sulphur synthesizes collagen (a protein that protects the structural integrity of your skin) as well as protects against the toxic effects of pollution and radiation. Sulfur is a great ingredient to treat skin conditions such as acne while exfoliating and shedding dead skin to make way for new healthy skin - it refines skin tone and texture and prevents bacteria spreading. Ever been for a soak in thermal pools? The sulfur, amongst the other minerals in the water, is one of the reasons for the therapeutic treatment. Sulfur is required for proteins (like keratin) to maintain their shape, which directly affects the strength and elasticity of hair. Sulfur has been proven to help increase hair growth and is used to treat psoriasis, dandruff, eczema, and folliculitis.

HISTORY

Sulfur (or Sulphur) is a natural mineral which is becoming more well known in skin care circles. It can be recognized by the slightly eggy smell. It is essential for skin and hair amongst other things and has a long history of being used as a remedy for skin conditions and various health issues. It can often be found around areas with volcanic activity and so with 37 volcanoes in Guatemala, there is plenty to choose from.

LOCAL SOURCING

Although most sulfur these days is derived from oil and gas productions, we source our Sulfur from thermal flats in the highlands around Xela in Guatemala. As it is not an extract, this means that our sulfur also benefits from  traces of other minerals and compounds..
